Welcome friends. I’m Katie - a wife, mama to 4 children, and lover of beauty. I never set out to start The Somerset Cottage, but in an attempt to bring some of my highest ideals to my everyday life, these plates became a special part of our story.

Growing up, my heart lived in the pages of childhood classics like The Secret Garden, A Little Princess, and Pride and Prejudice — stories steeped in the charm and magic of England.

As I got older, those stories became reality, as my husband, our four children,and I spent almost a decade exploring the English countryside. From old world stone covered in climbing roses to half-timbered cottages and garden gates, I found myself deeply inspired by the beauty that seemed to bloom around every corner.

In time, that inspiration became something more. I began leading women’s retreats in the English countryside and saw firsthand the healing, restorative power of beauty and intentional spaces.

My design aesthetic—grounded in English charm and the timeless romance of cottage life—took root in my soul.I’ve always adored English floral plates, but as a mom of four, I knew investing in delicate heirloom china wasn’t practical.

I began searching the internet for a set of English Cottage style melamine plates,  hoping for something durable yet beautiful—and was surprised when nothing turned up.

That’s when the idea for The Somerset Cottage was born. I thought "if I want these, maybe other people will too!"

I spent nearly a year working with an incredible designer and partners around the world to bring this vision to life. It became a true family affair—my kids helped choose colors, test samples, and offer their very enthusiastic opinions.

At The Somerset Cottage, we’re honored to bring you timeless and non-toxic plates that make everyday meals feel beautiful. Our hope is that these plates will invite joy to your table and transport you to the English countryside, wherever you may be.
